THE CWA AND THE APPG SEEK TO PROTECT CONSUMERS

The CWA and THE appg seek to protect consumers

Wendy recognised the rise in popularity for Scotch Whisky for personal investment purposes and the lack of protection existing for consumers at present. As a result of this positive meeting, on 20th September 2023 Wendy Chamberlain wrote to the MP Kevin Hollinrake (Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Enterprise, Markets and Small Business Department for Business and Trade) urging him to consider what steps could be taken to strengthen protections for whisky cask investors under the government’s Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Bill.

We understand Kevin Hollinrake MP has received Wendy’s letter, on which we eagerly await a response. A response will certainly be of interest to whisky cask investors, investment companies and traders/brokers as we look to protect the integrity of the cask industry and of Scotch Whisky as a whole.

The CWA will continue to explore ways to highlight the lack of regulation in the cask whisky market to provide protection for consumers and to uphold the overall reputation of the Scoth whisky industry.
