NEws update january 2025

The Cask Whisky Association was founded in September 2023 with a clear vision to advocate the use of transparent and ethical business practises in an unregulated market. By setting best practises in cask whisky sales and ownership the goal was to create a safe marketplace to protect the rights of consumers and uphold the integrity of the broader whisky industry. However, after a year of effort, it has become clear that systemic issues have inhibited progress. We had many applications to join the Association in the early months but many of them lacked the standard criteria required to become a member. This combined with a lack of unity and cooperation from stakeholders within the industry has, with great sorrow, forced the association to suspend operation in 2025.
Since it was founded, the Cask Whisky Association has received numerous enquires from consumers trying to navigate the complexities of the cask whisky market. Through its efforts, the association has been instrumental in addressing these, offering valuable advice, guidance, as well as a voice to individuals who might otherwise have been left without recourse. This positive influence highlights the importance of the association’s mission. While the organization will no longer operate actively, its legacy of protecting consumers and raising awareness of best practices in cask whisky trading will hopefully continue to inspire progress in the industry. We hope the association’s website will remains a trusted source of advice and information, ensuring that consumers are equipped to operate within the whisky market
